We are now approaching the biggest and most exciting edition of our festival:
It deals with: „To Have or To Be“.. Based on Erich Fromm´s critical classic opus about 500 Years of colonialism, we deal since more than 4 years with the Western European cultural asset:

We visited our anchestors in South America, who partly emigrated, partly have been expelled from Europe, and those, who themselves have been expelled from their own land and almost extinguished from the face of the earth from those European anchestors: The Yanomami in the rainforest in Northern Brazil, representative for all expelled and abused indigene nations. Based on these experiences, two pieces of New Music Theater have been developed, which deal with the Amazone.

We meet again one of our most important Austrian composers: Franz Koglmann. A first musical recording with orchestra and all soloists for our ongoing work brought a lot of energy and optimism for the project. For these three productions, Hall E of Museumsquartier will become home again for us from April 20th to May 13th, the longest period of time we ever worked there up to now.

But there is still a „secondary residence“ for the festival: off-theater in Kirchengasse. We are looking forward to a most exciting coproduction with bernhard ensemble, which we observe with delighted attention since years and which fascinates us with its characteristic theater language, elaborated and perfected over a decade. BIRD.SHIT.ISLAND!, based on a scurillous and macabre afterwit of mankind´s history, is a great contribution to our program. And it is also bernhard ensemble which plays an important role to advance A QUEDA DO CEU, the second part of our Amazone-project. Just as well as Elio Gervasi does, this great choreographer, residencing in Vienna, together with three dancers of his dance company. These are artistic dialogues that we are looking forward to with great delight.

This festival also realises its interdisciplinarian ambition on a most extensive scale: Apart from the participation of more than 100 artists of all genres and disciplines, these four projects would not have been realised without a substantial and perennial collaboration of anthropologists, sociologists, shamans, philosophers, linguists, historians and other people from the most diverse areas of human mentation and action, who contributed initiating and ongoing substance.

Our jetzzeit-meetings with chosen, potentially new spectators, by inviting about 40 „curiosity-seekers“ to gaze at our processes of initiating, creating and developing our projects, are enthusiastically welcomed. We started with them last autumn with a jetzzeit – event for A QUEDADO CEU and TILT in last autumn and had to repeat it two times already to satisfy the demand. At begining of April there will be one more jetzzeit for JOIN! and BIRD.SHIT.ISLAND. The interest is big enough to make it evident, that we have reason to raise the frequency for such events in the future.

And – of course – we already work on our program for 2015. Apart from that, we started a new initiative to get our opera for children CAMILO CHAMÄLEON by Max Nagl maybe already in 2014 to Sao Paulo/Brazil.
And our first meetings, concerning a collaboration with ((superar)) and Wiener Sängerknaben for a new peace have already started and will be proceeded after our festival at begining of June 2013.
While having comissioned 15 new operas for Austrian and international composers within the last 12 years, we – only for the periods 2014 – 17, plan to comission 10 new ones.
And we are quite optimistic that we will succeed to do so with public and private funding in Austria and together with some of the 20 national and over 15 international partners of the last 10 years.
